National strategy presentation

Local products play an increasingly important role in Tunisia. There is a heightened awareness of the socio-economic importance of traditional foods in the public and private sectors. For this newly emerging Tunisian agro-food sub-sector to develop fully, a strategic approach at the national level must be put in place.

The PAMPAT 2 project will provide support to the Ministry of Agriculture and the Agricultural Investment Promotion Agency to prepare the first Tunisian strategy for the promotion of local food products in collaboration with the main public and private stakeholders.

  • Local level : Promotion of local products within their respective regions of origin
  • National level Promotion of the agro-food sub-sector of local products (i.e. Tunisian Contest of Typical Food Products)
  • International level Promotion of Tunisia’s country brand around local products

These components of the national strategy for local products will be essentially action-oriented. With the support of PAMPAT 2, the strategy will be implemented in two Tunisian pilot regions.

Project for Market Access of Typical Agrofood Products (PAMPAT Tunisia) funded by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of the Swiss Confederation (SECO) and implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in close cooperation with the Ministry of Economy, Finances and Investment Support, the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining and the Ministry of Agriculture, Hydraulic Ressources and Fisheries.
